Funeral planned for 'gentle giant'

Khalfani Jordan Haughton, 18, of Rexdale, was fatally stabbed Aug. 10 in a third-floor Wilson Ave. W. flat during an altercation with the husband of a woman who occasionally cared for one of his young brothers.

TORONTO - A large number of relatives, friends and neighbours are expected at the weekend funeral of a teenager who was fatally stabbed in a babysitter’s apartment.
“A lot of people are coming in to support and comfort,” Florence Haughton said of the service for her nephew scheduled for Saturday. “It’s sad, so sad.”
Called a “gentle giant” by Jassette Haughton, her stepson Khalfani Jordan Haughton, 18, of Rexdale, was fatally stabbed in a third-floor Wilson Ave. W. flat during an altercation with the husband of a woman who occasionally cared for one of his young brothers.
After finding Derrick Oram near his building, Toronto Police charged him with second-degree murder.
Oram, 37, remains in custody.
Visitations for the part-time grocery store clerk and student, who was stabbed repeatedly and died of a chest wound, will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Scott Funeral Home, 273 Weston Rd.
Another visitation will be held in the hour before his funeral Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Peace Community Church, 33 McCormack St., south of Humber Blvd. and Weston Rd.
